To begin with, the sponsor in this program is the one who provides USCIS with the Declaration of Financial Support (Form I-134) of the applicant (beneficiary).
If you have relatives, friends or acquaintances in the US who are in legal status, then you can apply for sponsorship to one of them. Most of the first applicants for the program already had personal connections with people in the US: relatives, friends, colleagues, who became sponsors for refugees.
If you do not have acquaintances in the United States, then you will have to look for a sponsor yourself. It is worth starting the search, of course, from the Internet.
After the launch of the “Uniting for Ukraine” program, groups appeared in social networks where Ukrainians and sponsors from the United States can find each other, tell about themselves, see photos, exchange messages and agree on participation in the program.
It is worth starting the search, of course, from the Internet. After the launch of the “Uniting for Ukraine” program, groups appeared in social networks where Ukrainians and sponsors from the United States can find each other, tell about themselves, see photos, exchange messages and agree on participation in the program.
Potential sponsors who want to help Ukrainians with the move can be found on the special website Welcome Connect, which was recently launched by Welcome.US. This non-profit organization coordinates support for refugees in the United States. The Internet platform “” brings together Americans who offer themselves as sponsors and Ukrainians who are looking for sponsors. The website
is available in English and Ukrainian.
How does this platform work?
Sponsors register on the Welcome Connect site and go through training modules explaining what “sponsorship” entails and complete a profile. Ukrainians fill out only a profile. Beneficiaries can view lists of sponsors and choose who they want to communicate with. At the same time, the Americans will not be able to view the profiles of Ukrainians until they contact them.
When a Ukrainian and a sponsor decide that they are a match, they go to the state website to officially apply for the federal program “Uniting for Ukraine”.
It should be emphasized that the government checks both potential sponsors and Ukrainians. After the approval of the application, citizens of Ukraine can come to the United States within 90 days and stay temporarily for up to two years.
We would like to note that at the moment the Welcome Connect website is
processing the participants of the first wave, and the registration of beneficiaries is
temporarily suspended due to the large number of applications. But the site offers
to leave an email address to notify about the start of registration.
